Our Story

Is a story of missions

That continues today

for a new generation

And a church for tomorrow

How it all started...

Tusculum Hills began in the living room of a committed Christ-follower during a prayer-meeting in his home with twenty-one people. They met to pray for the new housing development in the Tusculum neighborhood and asked God to build a great church in that area that would minister to the people there who needed a church. Judson Baptist Church had already taken notice of the developing area in South Nashville and was willing to sponsor the new church.

The first pastor was a member of Judson who was preparing for service as a missionary. After his theological training was over, Pastor Clemmons and his wife left Tusculum Hills under appointment of the International Mission Board to begin a ministry in Italy. The church called a missionary who had served in South America to be her second pastor. He left four years later to return to the mission field, this time in the Philippines.

These two foundational elements, prayer and missions, have been at the heart of Tusculum Hills from her beginning, and they continue to this day. Jesus said that his father's house was to be a house of prayer for all nations. Whether it is supporting a missionary around the world, podcasting the message of hope in places no one would have imagined, taking a worship service to a local senior adult community, or ministering to the refugee and immigrant community who now call Nashville home, we continue to find ways to keep the vision of missions alive and well at Tusculum Hills.

Expanding the vision...

Nolensville Road is an exciting, international corridor running through the heart of Nashville. Within blocks of our campus you will find refugee communities for oppressed people from all around the world. But you will also find new and vibrant communities springing up next to neighborhoods that Nashville residents have called home for years. If you are ready to live on mission, you’ll find a place at Tusculum Hills where you can touch the world for Christ.

Where we are headed...

Tusculum Hills is a church that is committed to looking like our neighborhood. We are small which gives us the feeling that we are a caring family. We are scripture driven in our worship, our ministry, and our practice. Our partnerships with other churches and ministries are carefully chosen so that we can be consistent in our gospel witness. Discipleship is woven through our  ministry calendar. Missions and prayer are the foundations of all we do.

We have no sense that God expects us to be the largest church in Nashville. He only wants us to be faithful with the opportunities he has given us. If you believe that God could grow you spiritually by your engagement with a church where your gifts and talents will make a difference on day one, we'd love to welcome you home! We honor God's word, keep the focus on outreach, minister in Jesus' name, and engage in the mission of transforming South Nashville through the gospel.
